Who would have thought buzzards are quite amorous.
Apparently, the dedicated followers of south suburban alt-rock band Vultures Are Lovebirds have known all along.

"The biggest reward (to being in this band) is having a core group of fans that have really become family," said Rick Skowyra, lead singer and songwriter.
"We have a special relationship with our die-hard fans. The VAL Army is modest but lethal," he said. "I intend to spend the rest of my life with these people. You can quote me on that."

Vultures Are Lovebirds will perform tonight at O'Malley's, 11957 S. Pulaski Road, Alsip.
The band, which also includes Dan Williams on guitar, keyboards and vocals; Bob Cislo on bass; Andy Sacinski on guitar; and Eric Matteson on drums, has been together since 1996 and specializes in a light pop-guitar-rock sound. Think U2 with a bit of the Cure mixed in for good measure.

"We grew up listening to bands that believed in emotion, in that in-between era that started with new wave and ended with grunge," Skowyra said. "Even though I wouldn't consider our music purely emo, we definitely emote. I kind of see our stuff as emo with a soul-pop twist."

The band's first album, "Up the Love," came out in 2003 and received airplay on some local college radio stations.
Now Vultures Are Lovebirds are ready for the next step. The next album is in the first stages, Skowyra said.
"It will be much like the last album, but with more of a focus on arrangements and overall soundscapes," he said. "We can't repeat ourselves. Our first record … really consisted of songs that were written over the span of many years. The new record will be more focused."

Patrick's Day celebration, 3420 W. Grace St., Chicago.

Great to see an article on the band in the local paper. As one of those fans, I can say that we enjoy getting together and hearing you guys play each time. Looking forward to that next album as well.
Keep up the good work (and the love!)
