Pictures from the Silivies’ Acoustic Show

Here they are people....

I believe that the camera people were Tom F and Teresa. Not sure who else was snapping. If you want to be known, put your credits in the comments section.

PS – Turtle’s gotta keep that tongue under wraps!

Saying goodbye to an old friend

It was hard, and I was unexpectedly kinda sad, but I finally let go of my baby. Yes, my 1996 Jeep is now in someone else’s arms. It was my first new car, and we lasted 10 years. That baby went through a lot. Even got me to Florida. Listened to jazz with me in New Orleans, and took in the Memphis Blues and Graceland. Peered into the Sun Studios window. Got me to October Fest in Helena, Georgia. Countless trips to the Indiana and Michigan shoreline. Various romantic happenings in the back. Yes, SOUL 72 is now retired. The plates will hang somewhere in my garage, and always in the back of my mind.

Tues night rehearsals

Image hosting by Photobucket

Hey... aaah
VAL practice tonight. We’ll have Eric back in the mix. It will be good to have a little uh uh and a little bit of uh uh. With the percussion in full effect! T-Bone F-Stick says that he got some pics for me from the Silvies show. I will get them posted soon. I think he might also have a little snippet of video! So, I can post that download on the blog.

Tonight, we’ll be working on a new song called “Try”. I’ve mentioned it in the past, and it’s coming together. We’ll probably add it to our live show by the time the next gig comes along. And on that subject .. anyone want to give us a gig ? Our myspace site lists the dates we are available in May. April is a complete wash. We’ll play anywhere. As long as there are spirits and beautiful people.

Type to you tomorrow. It’s hump day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT!

Yes, he supported us even in the early days of VAL.
Let’s give Matt warm birthday wishes! Post them in the comments section below:

Silvies Aftermath ....

Hey, the show last night went pretty well. A big thank you to all of you that made it! Good times. And you braved that colossal snow storm! :-) Silvies is a cool place and we expect to play there again soon. Next time with a full band. The acoustic thing is fun and all, but I missed my boyz (Eric and Andy).

Silvie really takes care of her bands, and she and Denny are great people.

I know that some pictures were taken by Tommy F. and Teresa. Not sure who else had a camera. I’ll put the pictures up when I get them.

Here’s the set list from last night :

1.Never Say Never
2.Meant To Be
3.This Life Is Blind
4.Just One More
5.Overkill
6.Still There
7.Not Alone
8.Mr. Superlove –
With “Ghost in You” intro
9.You Don't Get Much – Bodeans Cover (Rob sings lead)

Thanks again, and see you soon!

last splash..

Last practice before the acoustic show. Now I hear that it’s supposed to snow on Thursday. Just our luck, huh ? No matter what happens, our collective chins will be “up”. I’m hoping to see many of your lovely faces there. Next week, we’ll begin recording some new songs in earnest. And I may begin leaking demos on this blog and on myspace as songs are being developed. Our myspace site is growing daily. If you would like to be our “friend” just contact us. We are very friendly. And check out some of our friends as well. It’s an interesting bunch to say the least.

3 Man Acoustical Jam... Dulli Noted (new twilight single)

Image hosting by Photobucket

And so, my desolation angels, the week of the acoustic experiment is upon us. Yes, Thursday night, at Silvies Lounge, the next chapter in the book. Never before have Bobby, Dan and I attempted a show without “the beat” and the “roll”. Eric and Andy will only be there in spirit, and we will ride their swagger. Yes, a little VAL-lite on Thursday night and all will be well in Loveville.

You can hear the newest Twilight Singers single at their myspace site. Check it out! Bonnie Brae is the sh*t! Dulli reigns supreme again. When will this man be the superstar that he is in his own mind ?

Practice.. Background on Ryan.. Demo of Most Beautiful

Image hosting by Photobucket
Good practice last night and a set list is finally taking shape for the Silvie’s acoustic show. It’s gonna be a bit weird taking the stage as just the 3 of us. (Bob, Dan and I). However, I think it should be interesting. The songs are beginning to take on a new feel.

Here’s a little background on one of my favorites – Ryan Adams.

As a little treat.... Click here to download a very old demo version of “Most Beautiful” that I recorded myself. Only a limited number of downloads available.

Oscars.. etc.

Image hosting by Photobucket
Yes, the Oscars are over, and we had our annual get together over at Andy and Desi’s place. It was quite eventful for me in particular since I won the Oscar Pool! Andy came in a close second. Buda was right up there until the end, and it all came down to the Best Picture category. I was lucky enough to choose Crash over Brokeback. Andy had Brokeback and Buda had Capote.

This week we will be getting ready for our acoustic gig on the 16th. If you haven’t heard, it will only be 3/5th s of VAL. Dan, Bob and I will be doing a short acoustic set before the rest of the bands start at Sylvies.

Saw Dave and Nathan from the Assembly last night. They are working on new recordings and I can’t wait to hear it. It should be sweet.

Hey, check out this wonderful shot of the one and only Eddie Van Halen -

New Feature - A Song I Like

Every once and a while, I will post an mp3 that I like.

Today, we have "Nothing Better" by the Postal Service.
A modern day "Paradise by the Dashboard Light".
Boy and Girl trade barbs and venom.
I love it.

LYRICS
Will someone please call a surgeon
Who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart
That your're deserting for better company?
I can't accept that it's over...
I will block the door like a goalie tending the net
In the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry

So just say how to make it right
And i swear i'll do my best to comply

Tell me am i right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together

I feel must interject here you're getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself
With these revisions and gaps in history
So let me help you remember.
I've made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear.
I've prepared a lecture on why i have to leave

So please back away and let me go
I can't my darling i love you so...

Tell me am i right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together
Don't you feed me lines about some idealistic future
Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures

I admit that i have made mistakes and i swear
I'll never wrong you again
You've got a lure i can't deny,
But you've had your chance so say goodbye
Say goodbye

Yes, I have been away...

Some of you may have wondered where I've been. I haven't posted anything in a long while. It's nothing more than the old standby excuse.... I've just been really busy in "the real world". I had to neglet the digital realm a bit. Today, I posted some belated birthday wishes and I hope to post more often in the coming days. We have an acoustic show coming up on March 16th that we are very much under rehearsed for. But we will pull together. I really hope to see you all there. I know it's a Thursday, but we haven't played out since that December show at Elbo Room. We play early. 8:30 start. We'll probably start the set closer to 9pm.

VAL has kinda been in a state of limbo. For some reason it's been really hard to schedule shows around everyone's personal schedules. It's probably more coincidence than anything else. I expect that we will end up writing a lot more this year. It's the one thing that can still be done without everyone in the room together. I've been trying to increase our web exposure as well. If any of you use myspace, please check us out at : www.myspace.com/vulturesarelovebirds.
We are steadily gaining fans.

Also, there was a little blub about us at chitowndailynews.org
Check that out here

Take care, all. And please make yourselves heard! We love to hear from you guys. Either post a comment on the blog, or on myspace, or our guestbook or the message board! There are so many ways to interact! And we love orgies.

Rick
